Colette Lynch Counseling PLLC
My Story
Hello, and welcome. Here is some basic information about myself, if you are curious and want to ask a specific question, please do! I welcome curiosity and I would love to answer any questions that you might have about therapy or my approach.
My Education:
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington. I completed my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. I had taken and passed the National certified counselor exam in 2022. Before receiving my Master's, I got my B.S. in Biology from PSU. I love learning and I maintain my training and education through continuing education credits. If you are curious about the additional training I have received, please let me know.
My Experience:
I started my career journey as a Kindergarten teacher at a bilingual school for Kindergarten- 2nd grade. I taught Kindergarten for two years, not long I know! While I love teaching and often incorporate this into therapy as much as possible, I soon realized that it was the social and emotional aspects of my students’ lives that I felt drawn towards. As a teacher and counselor, I have learned many things about healing, I wanted to share two. Firstly, we all learn and heal in our own way and time. Through counseling, we can work to understand what that process looks like for you. Secondly, counseling is a creative and adaptive journey. It is important to note that as you change, so will the therapy process.
Populations I work with:
I welcome all clients! While I specialize in working with children ages 5+ and their families, I also work with individuals. If you are looking for therapy for a child that is younger than 5, please reach out and we can assess if this would be an appropriate fit together.
I am also an open and accepting therapist. It is incredibly important to me that those who are looking for help, receive it without judgment. I welcome all in the LGBTQIA+ community. I am also polyamorous and kink-educated.
Mental Health Concerns:
Like many other therapists, I am a Jack of all trades. I can work with it all. However, I most enjoy and have focused my additional learning on ADHD, Autism, and OCD. I have had the privilege of working with neurodivergent folks in multiple settings, and I have learned that I have a lot more to learn about this.
Some of my other favorite topics include emotional exploration, trauma, anxiety, body image, life narrative exploration, and coping skills.
My Approach:
I love learning and there are so many therapy styles to learn about. If I didn't include it on this list, it is because I haven't received enough training to market that type of therapy.
My approach to therapy incorporates behavioral, person-centered, and creative therapies. More specifically, my practice includes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), narrative therapy, experiential therapy, part work, and creative approaches. I utilize a combination of techniques, from identifying negative cognitions to creating poetry about the therapy process. Without a doubt, one of my passions is actively developing a connection between the logical and emotional sides of people.
What we might do:
Together we will discover where maladaptive learned behaviors and thought processes stem. The hope is to discover applicable coping skills that translate to all challenges within your life.
During this journey, you will work on replacement behaviors and cognition. My goal is to strengthen motivation, resilience, and efficacy. The main intention of my therapy is to develop self-compassion. First and foremost, we will work within your worldview and comfort level. This counseling experience is done in a creative and judgment-free environment.
